AOK Today #44 - Daily dose

ree

AOK Today: Become a RAKtivist - join Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) for a daily inspirational quote!

"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." - the 14th Dalai Lama

How It Works: The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation provides an almost overwhelming amount of resources to "make kindness the norm." Whether you think you could use a hit for work, home, or a school community you're a part of, they've got you covered. If you sign up to be a RAKtivist, you can choose to receive each of, or just one of four offerings (below). I chose the daily dose option. I love the quote, and it's also a simple, non-intrusive reminder to be kind. It's my butterfly wings, if you think of the butterfly effect theory by Lorenz - that the flap of a butterfly’s wing can lead to nothing, or to a cyclone in another part of the world (how small changes can have no consequences, little consequences, or large consequences). Previous AOKs have referenced the health benefits of our neural responses to performing a kind act, as well as its contagion. Did you know a giggle once became an epidemic across Tanzania!?

  • Daily Dose of Kindness (sent daily)

  • Weekly Kindness Idea (sent weekly)

“It used to be thought that the events that changed the world were things like big bombs, maniac politicians, huge earthquakes, or vast population movements, but it has now been realized that this is a very old-fashioned view held by people totally out of touch with modern thought. The things that change the world, according to Chaos theory, are the tiny things. A butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazonian jungle, and subsequently a storm ravages half of Europe.”

— from Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Cost: Free!

Why I love it: I'm not always up for reading a newletter, or story, and often end up archiving it for a later time that may never arrive. With the Daily Dose option, I actually look forward to receiving it each day, reading it, and either saving the quote or deleting straight away. It adds a smile to my day, and a little accomplishment - whether it be email decluttering, or printing/saving some inspo.

Happy Giving |XOX|
