AOK Today #9 - Laundry with love

AOK Today: Use sustainable laundry products

"Having an empty laundry basket is the best 5 seconds of the week"

How It Works: Instead of plastic pegs that end up in landfill, or wooden pegs that often break, get mouldy and rot, opt in for using stainless steel clothes pegs. If you typically use single-use dryer sheets, you might want to opt for wool dryer balls for the rainy days when you can't hang the washing. These dryer balls can reduce fabric wrinkles and shorten drying time by up to 30%. You can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oil onto one of the ball to add a scent for added feel-good vibes. This can tap into our powerful olfactory memory (memory associated with smells) so you can create special memories for yourself and others you do laundry with - to add to the warm, soft feeling of clothes straight out of the dryer and feeling cared for (even by yourself)! This way you can support the planet by reducing items (longer lasting pegs), reusing, recycling (the steel, after 1000 uses the wool can be composted), and create memories too.

Cost: Between $9 - $50 depending on the number of pegs, and the seller. I spent $32 for pegs and 4 x wool dryer balls. I bought them from Us and the Earth, who remove "one kilo of ocean plastic in India" per order. They are an Australian and female owned business, and partner with 3 charities internationally.

Why I love it: I love the smell of fresh laundry, and the feel of clean sheets - one of my favourite sensory experiences! I'm so excited to try these wool dryer balls too. My previous apartment building used to share communal washing pegs (which I loved!), but I needed to buy my own after moving so opting for these beauties.
