AOK Today: Read about or watch an experience of a being/ a group who have a different story to yours
"Know the Midnight. Living in the high noon, without ever seeing the midnight promotes a sort of blindness." - Evan Mandery
How It Works: Let's make this, not only fulfilling but enjoyable too - go to a cinema, borrow an award winning book, join a book club, read in a bubble bath, snuggle in bed with a Netflix documentary when everyone is (finally) in bed, and/or sit by the window on a rainy day with a book (me today!). At times, we can get stuck in our own bubble of thoughts, experiences, and worldview. Books and movies can be like machines that generate empathy. They help us understand a little bit more about different hopes, aspirations, dreams and fears; to identify with those who are sharing this journey with us. Ironically, understanding others can help us better understand parts of ourselves too. I've popped in a few suggestion in the photos (haven't seen/read all of these yet, but I'm making my way slowly - I'm not the fastest reader)
Cost: Free - approx $20! Free to borrow a book/ you have a streaming subscription, $$ for cinema or to purchase.
Why I love it: Our minds are wonderfully stubborn (I once read that facts are stubborn, and minds are even more stubborn). It can feel like letting our guard down when exploring others' perspectives. We can feel like it's us vs them when really we are all beings dong the best we can. “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
